Legal Free (legalfree.in) is a free website with general information about Indian law. It explains legal topics, rights and procedures in plain language.

What you will find here

  • Law articles on legal topics, rights and procedures. Some posts share court judgments, official notifications or public notices, such as examination or vacancy notices.
  • Questions and answers: questions from readers with answers by Adv. Alok Kumar. A question sent through the Ask a Lawyer form is published only with the asker's permission, and never with their name or contact details.
  • Legal formats: sample formats of legal documents, such as an application to a court.
  • Videos: short explainers from the Legal Free channel on YouTube.

Reading the site is free and needs no account. The menus and labels can be switched to Hindi; the articles are in English.

Who writes the content

The articles and answers are written by Adv. Alok Kumar, Advocate, Delhi High Court & District Courts; LL.B., Faculty of Law, Delhi University; associated with Alok & Associates (2A).

The author page lists these details and links to the author's LinkedIn profile and to the Legal Free channel on YouTube.

Dates and updates

Every article shows the date it was published and, after a substantial revision, the date of that update. The law changes often, and an article describes the law as it stood when it was written or last updated.

Since 1 July 2024 the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam have replaced the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure and the Indian Evidence Act. Some older articles still refer to the earlier codes; the Disclaimer explains what this means for readers.

Notices about examinations, vacancies or deadlines are shared for information and may have expired. The official source is always the version to rely on.

If you find a mistake or an outdated statement, please tell us at care@legalfree.in or through the contact form. When a correction changes what an article says, the article shows the date of the update.
