About Bar Council of Delhi: The Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) is an autonomous statutory body constituted under Advocates Act, 1961 with and having wide varied powers, functions and duties. The Bar Council of Delhi is required to discharge statutory duties under the Advocates Act, 1961, Advocates’ Welfare Fund Act, 2001, Bar Council of India Rules and other Rules. The Advocates Act, 1961 (provisions of the Chapters I, II and VII) came into force with effect from August 16, 1961 and first elected body of the Bar Council of Delhi came into existence in the month of January, 1961. At that time there were around 3,000 advocates on the Roll of the State Bar Council.In the year 1961, the Bar Council of Delhi was provided with accommodation in old Delhi High Court Building. It later established its main office at 1-F, Lawyers Chambers in the new building of High Court of Delhi at Sher Shah Marg. Now, Bar Council of Delhi has its own premises at Siri Fort and is equipped with latest technologies. Bar Council of Delhi also owns its own Library at Tis Hazari Court premises and is having latest judgments, articles and equipped with latest technologies. As of today it has over 1,46,000 registered member advocates, making it the largest bar council in the country.
