The Bar Council of Delhi came into existence in the month of January, 1961. At that time there were around 3,000 advocates on the Roll of the State Bar Council, whereas, at present there are more than 1,40,000 Advocates on its Roll. The Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) is an autonomous statutory body constituted under Advocates Act, 1961 with and having wide varied powers, functions and duties. Bar Council of Delhi has its own premises at Siri Fort and is equipped with latest technologies. Bar Council of Delhi also owns its own Library at Tis Hazari Court premises and is having latest judgments, articles and equipped with latest technologies. The various Functions that the Bar Council of Delhi performs are such as; 1. To admit persons as advocates on its roll; 2. To entertain and determine cases of misconduct against advocates on its roll; 3. To safeguard the rights, privileges and interest of advocates on its roll; 4. To manage and invest the funds of the Bar Council; 5. Giving financial assistance to organize welfare schemes for the indigent, disabled or other advocates; 6. To provide for the election of its members; Bar Council of Delhi at the end of last year, i.e., 2023 release notification regarding advocates verification process in Delhi. This becomes a trending topic between advocates and law students all over Delhi. BCD later released several notifications regarding advocate verification form after getting feedback from advocates fraternity. On 29.02.2024, Bar Council of Delhi published another notification regarding BCD advocates verification process and the starting lines was this., “This Corrigendum Notification supersedes the earlier notifications dated 21.11.2023, 28.11.2023 and 23.12.2023 issued by the Bar Council of Delhi. Al the Learned Advocate Colleagues are requested to fill up the Verification Forms/Declaration Forms as per criteria mentioned herein in this Corrigendum Notification. Those who have already filled-up their verification forms in pursuance to our earlier notifications dated 21.11.2023, 28.11.2023 and 23.12.2023, need not fill-up the Verification Form/Declaration Form again. However, a list of those advocates whose filled-up verification forms were not found to be in order or not in accordance with the present corrigendum notification, has been uploaded in the website of BCD and they need to fill up the present Verification Form afresh according to the criteria mentioned.” As per notification date on 29.02.2024, it was clear that all the previous notification regarding advocate verification process is withdrawn. Also, Hony. Secretary of the Bar Council of Delhi on 12.03.2024 sends SMS to their members which mentioned following message. “Dear Members, On-line Verification Forms as per Rule 5 of Bar Council of India (Verification and Place of Practice) Rules, 2015 are required to be filled up. Please refer www.delhibarcouncil.com for details of notice.
